Dayton, OH - Chinese food, dancing, acrobatics, and calligraphy; all of these things and more are going to be at the Wright State Chinese New Year’s festival. Dayton Regional STEM School sophomores and juniors attending the Chinese college course are ringing in the Chinese New Year the right way by heading to Wright State on February 9th to join in on the celebration. The sophomores will not only attend, but also be involved in the festival, performing a dance to the famous Chinese song ‘Little Apple,’ choreographed by their Chinese Teacher, Lily Chen. Students will be able to have fun and test out their linguistic skills, which they have been working on and refining since 8th grade.

Those attending the festival are currently enrolled in dual enrollment Chinese, a class eligible for college credit through Wright States program. DEP Chinese is taught by Lily Chen, and is an intensive class in which students learn college level content. Through the connections of this class, students will congregate at the university to test their linguistic skills in a real life setting, and furthermore, will have the ability to actually experience a cultural event. Festival activities include painting, craft creating, and dressing up in traditional Chinese clothing.

The pictures above, taken by students at last year’s festival, demonstrate just how enjoyable the event is, and how students really had an opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture. Overall, the Chinese New Year’s Festival is an incredibly fun event, and we are especially thankful to our hosts and creators of the festival, which is sure to be a blast!
