PLAN E on Monday and Other Important News

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all of you for helping smooth out the kinks in our morning drop off and afternoon pickup process.  Due to your patience and cooperation, traffic is flowing well and the students are being safely transported to and from school each day.  The 3:15-3:30 time period continues to be the most congested of the day, so we ask that you assist in alleviating the problem by exiting the school at the north end of the parking lot.  Vehicles who travel back to the south exit, against the flow of traffic, after student pickup are creating a safety issue as well as slowing down the process.

The after school supervision program has become much more effective as well.  Students who remain after school have the opportunity to attend study tables on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  They also are able to attend a study hall each day, or have the option of participating in physical activities and games.  All students are being supervised until 5:00 pm.  In order to create a safe environment where all students are supervised until they are picked up, we ask that you coordinate a specific pick up time with your child each day.   If you have any questions about after school clubs and activities, please contact the faculty advisor for that club or activity.

On Monday, September 16 we will hold our first Plan E day at DRSS.   This day is considered to be a regular school day in that students will be expected to study and complete class assignments by a certain date and time.  In the future, high school students will attend virtual classes with their teachers through the Elluminate program (thus the E in Plan E day), but for this first Plan E day, high school students can find their assignments (and deadlines) on Pilot.  Middle school students will be assigned work on Friday that will be due the following Tuesday.

Thank you for a very successful start to the school year!

News about PSAT testing from Ms. Fisher

Dear Parents of students in grades 8-11,

I am writing to alert you to some upcoming PSAT testing opportunities that will be available at the Dayton Regional STEM School.

The following statement describes what the PSAT assessment measures:

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT®. It also gives you (Juniors only) a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.

The PSAT/NMSQT measures:

Critical reading skills
Math problem-solving skills
Writing skills

So, here are the options:

FREE PRACTICE TEST

On Saturday, September 21, the Princeton Review will be offering a "FREE" practice PSAT at the Dayton Regional STEM School. The free practice test on September 21will allow current juniors the chance to experience the testing format of the PSAT before they take the actual assessment in October.  The practice PSAT may also be useful to underclassmen who want additional opportunities to practice college admission type assessments for no charge. The test will begin at 9am and should end around 11:30am. Please have your student arrive by 8:45 that day to allow time for registration and announcements. Please click on the following link to register for this testing date:

PSAT Practice Test

REAL PSAT - OFFERED THROUGH COLLEGE BOARD

The REAL PSAT will be given on October 16 at DRSS. Each year, the school gives the College Board PSAT to all Juniors free of charge. At that time, students in grades 8-10 may also choose to take the assessment as long as they pay a testing fee of $20. If you have a student in grade 8th, 9th or 10th that will be taking the real PSAT on October 16, please email me at robin.fisher@wright.edu. You simply need to supply the students name and grade level. Return payment of $20 in the form of check (made out to Dayton Regional STEM School) or cash to the front office by Friday, October 4.

Please remember that NMSC scholarship opportunities are only available to juniors who test on the October 16 testing date.

Please contact me if you have any questions at robin.fisher@wright.edu.
Sincerely,

Robin Fisher
