Now Scheduling for Infosessions!

The Dayton Regional STEM School will be accepting applications starting December 1st for students in grades 6-10 for the fall of 2014. The DRSS is a public school with no tuition serving grades 6-12 on one campus in Kettering, OH.

DRSS is educating the next generation of scientists, engineers, innovators, researchers, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs for the Dayton region! Come see if we are the right fit for your student – attend an Infosession by signing up at the link here.

The first Infosession will be on December 3rd, 2013.

The importance of STEM education is summarized well by the following article from the Dayton Business Journal. Dayton ranks 10th in the nation for STEM jobs and there are currently over 80,000 jobs in STEM fields in the area, comprising 22.9 percent of the total workforce in the region. You can read more about STEM jobs in the Dayton region here - http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/blog/morning_call/2013/06/dayton-ranks-no-10-in-nation-for-stem.html

The Real World Starts Here! Come be a part of it.

Junior College Visit to UK - 11/18/13

Dear Junior Parents,

On Monday, November 18 we have arranged to take the junior class on a college visit to the University of Kentucky. Here are the details:

There is no cost for this tip
Transportation,  continental breakfast and lunch are included
Departure time: 6:30am
Arrival time back to DRSS: between 4:30-5:00pm
Students will hear an admissions presentation, be a part of a student panel, be able to participate in a college fair with all college representatives, and receive a campus tour

There will be no junior classes at DRSS on this date, so students should either attend this event or plan their own college visit for this day. In order to determine transportation needs I need to determine how many of our students will be visiting UK with us on 11/18. I am attaching a participation form. Please fill this out and have your student return it to the folder outside my office by Friday, November 8.

Please contact me with any questions.

Special announcements from Dr Lewis

Dear Parents,
We can't believe that the first quarter is behind us and the Holidays coming quickly. There is a lot to celebrate at DRSS; our students are fantastic. We encourage you to share special achievements, success stories and awards relative to your students with us. Our Facebook page and website are created to be informative and highlight the work and effort of students, staff members, teams and organizations throughout the year. There are a few parents who have requested, in writing, that their students should not be seen in school pictures (i.e. Facebook). We encourage those students to bow out of picture opportunities. Also, we will try to monitor, but if a picture is displayed, when parent has indicated disapproval, please notify me ASAP.
We remind you that this a school that focuses on performance and presentations. In many cases, students are paired or participating in groups. The bottom line is that a student's absence will affect the quality of group work, as others are counting on all members to be in attendance and contribute. Parents, please be mindful of this DRSS goal and the need for students to maintain good to great attendance. If vacations can be scheduled during school breaks, that would be appreciated.
                                                                                      Sincerely,
                                                                                                  Dr. Jeff Lewis, Principal
