DRSS will be open Wednesday, January 29th

Dear Parents,

The forecast for tomorrow morning is for temperatures to be between 4 and 4 below. We are aware that several districts will be on a 2 hour delay,  but believe that we should be in session and hold school.  Parents always have the final decision regarding student attendance in matters of poor weather. Tomorrow is no different.

If your resident district busses and this is your child's only transportation option, we will of course, honor that delay, otherwise, please plan on being at school by 8:15 am.  Those who carpool or ride public transportation should make plans to arrive by 8:15am.  Again, it is your decisionto determine the safest option for your child's arrival at DRSS.

Our doors will be open at 7:30 with classes beginning at 8:15 as usual. Tardies and absences will be excused with parent acknowledgement.
Thank you for your patience in this brutal January.
Sincerely,

Dr. Jeff Lewis

Plan E scheduled for Tuesday, January 28th

Dear Parents --

With the forecast for extreme bone chilling temperatures tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, we will be operating on a PLAN E day.  Students were made aware of this decision today and should have appropriate materials that they will need to complete tomorrow's assignments.

CANCELLED: InfoSession for Saturday, January 25, 2014

The Information Session tomorrow, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm has been CANCELLED.

The forecast for tonight and tomorrow looks like we are in for another round of wintery weather, with accumulations of up to 4 inches in places, with blowing and drifting snow.   The administration team at DRSS has made the decision to cancel tomorrow's Information Session.    In order to accommodate your interest in our school, we have added two additional dates for you to reschedule your visit.

Please contact Ms. Johnson (molly.johnson@wright.edu) to switch your reservation to the date of your choice.   Please include your name and your student's name in the email.

The dates and times that we have scheduled – which are now on the calendar are:
  • Saturday, February 1, 2014
    • 10:00 am
  • Tuesday, February 18, 2014
    • 6:00 pm
If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Johnson.

Thank you -

DRSS is OPEN today, Friday January 24th

Dear Parents,

It has definitely been a unique weather week in the Dayton area! Please note that while frigid temperatures are still forecasted for tomorrow, we will NOT be calling for a Plan E day on Friday due to low temperatures.  While school work has continued over the last 3 days, the loss of face-to-face instructional time has been significant. For this reason, DRSS will be operating on a regular schedule for Friday, January 24.

We have been in contact with several districts and quite a few have already made the decision to delay.  If your resident district busses and this is your child's only transportation option, we will of course, honor that delay, otherwise, please plan on being at school by 8:15 am.  Those who carpool or ride public transportation should make plans to arrive by 8:15am.

The past couple of weeks have provided a challenge as we have attempted to balance the need for classroom instruction and concern for the safety of our students. These are not easy decisions to make and we do not take them lightly. As always, please use your own judgement when determining the safest option for your child's arrival at DRSS.

Hoping for better weather ahead.

Plan E day for Thursday, January 23rd

Dear Parents,
The forecast for tomorrow, Thursday, January 23, 2014, is more concerning than this morning, as continued sub-zero temperatures may be met with additional snowfall. As a result, Thursday, January 23 will be another E-day.  Because of the reality of missed school days, planning and effectiveness have been foiled by continuous winter surprises. We will be compensating for these weather related Plan E days by changing the Edays set on the DRSS calendar for February 18 and April 21 to regular, in school, face-to-face days of classes.  The calendar has been updated to reflect these changes.
Stay warm, and we hope to be back in a routine at DRSS soon.

Please remind your student to apply for all scholarships from the schools they are considering at this time. Update for January 15, 2014

January 15, 2014
Dear Parents -

We have several newsworthy items that we would like to share with you this week!!!

First of all, the 2nd quarter report cards were distributed to your child today!!!!!

The 2014-2015 school calendar has been approved by the Governing Board and is linked here.   Please note that the start date for next school year is August 13.   Please plan all of your vacations and camps ahead of time, so you are back prior to August 13!

Beginning Thursday, January 16, a construction project will begin in Phase I of the school.  The plans are to add four additional hard-walled classrooms to be used by the middle school students.  Three classrooms will be relocated to other areas of the school during the construction.  The project is projected to be complete by the time the students return from spring break!

We would like to welcome Christine Yeary to our STEM family.  Christine's role will be Communications and Partnerships, Program Manager.  Christine comes to us with nearly 20 years of experience working with various corporations and non-profit agencies in the Dayton area.  She is married and has three children.  She is excited to be a valuable member of DRSS and looks forward to working with the partners, students and parents.

This weekend marks a 5-day weekend break for our students.   Thursday, January 16, 2014 is a Teacher Professional Development day, Friday, January 17, 2014 is a Teacher/Student day off  (Parent/Teacher Conference Exchange Day) and Monday, January 20, 2014 is the Martin Luther King Holiday.

Enjoy!

School is open Wednesday, January 8th

Dear Parents -
As we begin to thaw out and warm up, Dayton Regional STEM School will be OPEN tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, 2014.  We realize that several districts in the area are already on a 2-hour delay and some may even choose to close, and as always it is up to you, the parent, to make the decision if it is safe for you to get your child to school.  If you choose to keep your child at home due to the temperatures, weather, etc, and you call into the school, your child will be counted as excused.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 937-256-3777, ext. 104.

Thank you -
